Drinking Water Quality
General Information

The quality of the city’s water remains excellent. The water meets the standards set by the National Safe Drinking Water Act. Laboratory tests are conducted regularly. Tests indicate that no harmful bacteria or chemical contaminants are in the water supply that exceed accepted standards.
The condition of the approximately three-hundred-mile distribution system ranges from fair to very good. Most of the water mains are flushed each spring. This procedure removes rust and sediment that collects in the distribution system during the course of a year.

- This is a summary of laboratory test results for the city’s drinking water in 2003. This year’s report delivers good news. There were no contaminants found that exceed levels set by the EPA for safe drinking water. In previous years, we have exceeded the levels set for copper, but due to our corrosion control efforts, (the addition of phosphates to the water) we are now again in compliance.
